Raymond E. Riehle

Raymond E. Riehle, age 77, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 6:20 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient for one day. Mr. Riehle was a 1951 graduate of Edgerton High School and served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany. He was a lifelong dairy and grain farmer and was a lifelong member of the Emanuel United Methodist Church near Edgerton. As an active member in the church he held numerous offices in the church and had been the choir director since 1970. In his community, Ray was elected to serve as a Milford Township Trustee for twelve years, was elected to the Edgerton Local School Board, where he served for twenty-four years, served on the Board of Governors for Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio, of which he was a longtime president, and he was also a member of the Defiance County Farm Bureau. Ray’s lifelong love of music can be seen in his children, grandchildren and his community. He was director of the community choir for the last ten years and has entertained countless numbers with his playing of the musical saw, which he began to do at the age of fifteen, and often was seen playing his trumpet in the Edgerton Alumni band during the Homecoming show. Raymond E. Riehle was born on September 16, 1933, on the family farm near Edgerton, the son of Edward W. and Gladys P. (Blair) Riehle. He married Carolyn Joan Krill on November 27, 1955, in Edgerton and she survives. Also surviving are his five children, Kevin (Norma) Riehle, of Houston, Texas, Karyn (Tom) Schneider, of Findlay, Ohio, Kermit (Denise) Riehle and Kristine (Jerome) Bartley, both of Edgerton, and Kyle (Trish) Riehle, of South Lyon, Michigan, seventeen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Marjorie (Gerry) Meyer, of Bryan, and Miriam Wilson, of Auburn, Indiana, and one brother-in-law, Keith Robinson, of Defiance, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carolyn Robinson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, and also on Monday, July 4, 2011, after 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Services will be held on Tuesday , July 5, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Emanuel United Methodist Church near Edgerton with Reverend R. L. Barnett and Pastor Adam Riehle officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton. Memorials are requested to the Emanuel United Methodist Church or to Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville.
