Esther R. Kaltenbach, age 99, of Edon, Ohio, completed this life among us at 11:20 A.M. on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Hillside Country Living near Bryan, Ohio, where she was a resident, after a brief illness. Mrs. Kaltenbach was a graduate of Edon High School and together with her husband was co-owner of the Edon Variety Store for thirty-eight years. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Edon, where she was a member of the Mary Martha Circle and a former member of the church Altar Guild. Following her retirement, Esther was very active in her church and the senior citizens programs. Esther R. Kaltenbach was born on August 22, 1911, in Edon, the daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Klink) Schieber. She married Herman G. Kaltenbach on December 8, 1939, in Perrysburg, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1989. Mrs. Kaltenbach is survived by one son, Edwin (Carolyn) Kaltenbach, of Lynden, Washington. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Victor Schieber, a stepsister, Hilda Chadbourne, and a stepbrother, Hillis Fox. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Peter Lutheran Church, Edon, with Reverend Clayton J. Bailey officiating. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M., in the church. Interment will be in Edon Cemetery.
