Donald George Roberts, age 81, of rural Bryan, Ohio, died at 8:50 P.M. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Roberts was a 1947 graduate of Farmer High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1947-1951. While in the service he served much of his enlistment on the Island of Shemya in the Aleutian Chain. He was honorably discharged in 1951 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Don was the owner and operator of Bryan/Defiance Sign Service which specialized in hand painted lettering, sign design, construction and installation. His notable accomplishments include the representation of the world globe on the Ohio Art water tower, the Chase Brass logo on their water tower, and the Lester’s Diner sign which was installed in 1965 and is still in use today. He had an interest in Log Homes which brought about the formation of the Northway Log Homes Company that designed, sold and built log homes for twenty-five years until he suffered a stroke in 1998. Donald was also a member of Bryan Masonic Lodge #215. Donald George Roberts was born on May 25, 1929, in Farmington, New Mexico, the son of Leo and Erma (Rott) Roberts, He married Linda K. Peters on May 25, 1968 in Stryker, Ohio and she survives. Also surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Thomas (Mary) Roberts, of Leo, Indiana, Steven Roberts, of Port Clinton, Ohio, two daughters, Karen (David) Stershic, of Sarasota, Florida, and Belinda (Charles) Ernst, of Findlay, Ohio, a daughter-in-law, Debbie Roberts, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Davis and a brother, Walter Roberts. Visitation will be held in the on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Masonic services will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Monday evening in the funeral home. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home Bryan, followed by military honors presented by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Hospital Hospice.
