Gerald Allen Smith

Gerald Allen Smith, age 59, of Defiance and formerly of Pioneer, Ohio, died at 4:20 P.M. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance where he was a patient. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Hilltop High School and served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam and also was stationed in Korea. He was employed by 20/20 Plastics in Holiday City and enjoyed fishing. Gerald Allen Smith was born on September 10, 1951, in Wauseon, Ohio, the son of Floyd W. and Wilma L. (Sanders) Smith. He married Donna Kay Hargrove and she preceded him in death in January of 2009. Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Wilma Smith, of West Unity, Ohio, his children, Matthew (Maranda) Smith, of Bridgewater, Ohio, Curtis (Heather) Smith and Samuel (Brittany) Smith, both of Pioneer, Elizabeth (Scott Coressel) Smith, three brothers-in-law, J.R. Kinard, Gene Zuver, both of Defiance,and Dean Anderson, of Alvordton, Ohio, five grandchildren and his fianceé, Michelle. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Smith and one sister, Connie Anderson. Grave side services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the West Franklin Cemetery near West Unity. Military honors will follow conducted by the Fulton County Honor Gaurd.
