Bertie L. Hug, age 81, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 10:48 P.M. on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in her home after an extended illness. A graduate of West Unity High School, Mrs. Hug worked for the City of Bryan as an administrative assistant to the mayor and chief of police for over twenty years and was the manager of Oakwood Mobile Home Community near Bryan for the last nineteen years. She was a member of the West Unity Presbyterian Church, was an active member of Bryan Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2233 for twenty-five years, was a member and past president of the Bryan American Legion Auxiliary and served as Senior Regent with Bryan Women of the Moose for two terms. Bertie L. Hug was born on October 20, 1929, in West Unity, Ohio, the daughter of Lyle D. and Geneva (Arnold) Mann. She married Kenneth Crummell, who preceded her in death in 1965. She then married James Hug and he preceded her in death in 1995, after twenty-nine years of marriage. Mrs. Hug is survived by one son, Jim Hug, of Palm Bay, Florida, two stepdaughters, Dee (Tom) Heston, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Cynthia vom Lehn, of Mesa, Arizona, two stepgranddaughters, Johnna Sorgenfrie and Tonya Heston, two stepgrandsons, and four stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Gotshall, of Bryan, three sisters-in-law, Sheila Bayes and Marsha Nerad, in Michigan, and Leola Wilsey, in North Carolina, her caregiver family, Michelle Sponsler, Andy Dell and their children, Meresades Horg, Raven and Jaylyn Dell, and her nieces and nephews. Visitation for Bertie L. Hug will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan with Pastor Sam Byroads officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery near Bryan, Ohio. Memorials are requested to the Williams County Humane Society or to Compassion Medical Clinic.
