James Henry Burlew, age 82, of rural Edon, Ohio, died on Sunday, February 27, 2011, in his home after an extended illness. Mr. Burlew was a farmer, construction worker and bus driver for Edon Northwest Schools for thirty-five years, retiring in 1996. While working construction he worked on building bridges throughout Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He had also been employed by GM in Defiance, Ohio, and also at the gas station in Columbia, Ohio. He was a member of the Columbia Church of Christ in Columbia, Ohio, and enjoyed being around family and friends. James Henry Burlew was born on November 24, 1928, in Cooney, Ohio, the son of Perry and Dovie (Burke) Burlew. He married Rosa Irene Jones on December 7, 1946, at the Chapel in the Garden in Angola, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2006. James is survived by three daughters, Linda (Gaby) Nasrallah, of Roswell, New Mexico, Peggy (Charles) Scheeter, of Coldwater, Michigan, and Annie Burlew, of Edon, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Laura Lee (Shawn) Strickland, of Tracy, California, Freddy (Amanda) Nasrallah, Joseph (Amanda) Nasrallah and Tiffany (Rick) Bachicha, of Roswell, New Mexico, Amy (Mark) Waldrop, of Quincy, Michigan, Chuck Scheeter, of Coldwater, Michigan, Rosa (Perry) Burlew-Barnett, of Edon, and Annie Mae (Jesse) Torrey, of Angola, Indiana; fourteen great-grandchildren, Gaby Strickland, of Tracy, California, Jacob, William and Emma Nasrallah, Krysten and Freddy Nasrallah and Xenia Bachicha, all of Roswell, New Mexico, Taylor and Kathryn Waldrop, of Quincy, Michigan, Tresten and Mariannah Burlew and Franklyn Burlew-Barnett, all of Edon, and Taevin James and Kiersten Irene Torrey, both of Angola, Indiana. He is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Marjorie Green, of Elkhart, Indiana, Ida (Robert) Teats, of Montpelier, Ohio, Helen Wisner, of Fayette, Ohio, Mary Ann (Garner) Parks, of Albion, Michigan, and Pat Jones, of Fayette, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding him in death in addition to his wife were his parents, one daughter, Sandra Burlew-Likens, a grandson, Michael Scheeter, and four brothers-in-law, Jack Green, Junior Jones, Samuel Jones and Don Wisner. Services for James Henry Burlew will be on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Columbia Church of Christ with Nathan Derico, Minister and Pastor Paul Spotts officiating. Interment will follow in the Edon Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 4-8 P.M. on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Memorials are requested to the Parkinson's Foundation or the American Lung Association.
