Emma Maxine “Packie” Burkhart, age 90, of Auburn, Indiana, and formerly a longtime resident of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Center in Garrett, Indiana, where she was a resident. Mrs. Burkhart was employed by Spangler Candy Company in Bryan, Ohio, making candy canes and DumDums, and retired with twenty years of service. She was a member of the Edgerton Church of Christ, Do-it-Right Farm Bureau Council for more than fifty years and the Card Club. Emma Maxine “Packie” Burkhart was born on August 29, 1920, in Sturgis, Michigan, the daughter of Zera R. and Emma Martha (Kline) David. She married her husband of seventy-two years, Maurice C. Burkhart, on December 10, 1938, in Spencerville, Indiana, and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Davis, of Glendale, California, and Dawn (Dan) Nichter, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two grandchildren, Richard Yarger II and Megan Nichter, one brother, Wendell David, of Mount Vernon, Washington, and one sister, Ida Margaret “Peg” Snyder, of Melbourne, Florida. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011, from 3:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio. Services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edgerton Church of Christ with D.V. Dillinger officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, Ohio.
