Richard E. Harman

Richard E. Harman, age 74, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 12:43 P.M. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, where he was a patient, after an illness of three weeks. He was a graduate of Edgerton High School and served in the United States Army in post war Korea. Mr. Harman was employed as property manager for Isaac Properties for the last thirty-four years. He was a member of Bryan VFW Post #2489 and the Carpenters Union and formerly was a member of Bryan Moose Lodge #1064 and Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233. Richard E. Harman was born on October 23, 1936, near Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Walter W. and Kathryn Elizabeth (Smith) Harman. He married Jo Ann Sholl on November 17, 1962, in Bryan, Ohio, and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Shelley (Mark) Scruggs, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Lesley (Richard) Shirkey, of Bryan, and one son, Michael E. Harman, also of Bryan. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Mindi (Brent) Roughton, Jacob and Andrew Shirkey, Emily and Abigail Scruggs, and three sisters, Phyllis (John) Jack, of Bryan, Jeanette Harman, of Defiance, Ohio, and Sharon Bellmann, of Bryan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene Harman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2010, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Services celebrating the life of Richard E. Harman will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Larry Snavley officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Autism Speaks.
